Omniterra vs BigCommerce: what you pay as your sales grow

Short answer

BigCommerce is a mature hosted platform with a large set of payment integrations, multi-storefront options and no fee when you pay through one of its embedded payment providers, which include Stripe and PayPal. Its self-service plans come with a sales ceiling: once your trailing twelve-month sales pass the plan's threshold, you are moved up to the next plan automatically.

Omniterra doesn't link plans to revenue. You pick a plan for the features and limits you need, and it stays 0% commission on every plan, including a free plan with no time limit. If your sales are growing fast, that difference is worth running through with your own numbers.

BigCommerce plans in 2026

According to BigCommerce's pricing page and its 2026 update page, from 1 June 2026 the plans were renamed and repriced: Standard became Core, Plus became Growth, Pro became Scale and Enterprise became Performance.

BigCommerce says plans are based on trailing twelve-month GMV, and that when sales exceed a plan's threshold "you'll be notified and automatically upgraded". Its pricing FAQ adds that eligible sales include the product price net of discounts, plus taxes and shipping, so the threshold counts more than your net revenue.

The Open Payment Provider fee

The 2026 update added a fee on self-service plans for orders processed through an Open Payment Provider: 2.0% of eligible GMV on Core, 1.0% on Growth and 0.6% on Scale, with no fee under Performance contracted terms. Orders paid through an embedded provider carry no extra fee. The list of embedded providers includes BigCommerce Payments, Stripe, PayPal (Braintree, Complete Payments), Adyen, Checkout.com, Klarna, Affirm, Afterpay, Amazon Pay and Worldpay. For most stores, choosing an embedded provider avoids the fee.

Worked example

Assumptions: a store selling $6,000 a month online, so $72,000 over twelve months, taxes and shipping included. Card processing fees are left out, because with Stripe on both platforms you pay Stripe's own rates either way.

Now let the same store grow to $40,000 a month. On BigCommerce, it is past Growth's $100K yearly limit, so it moves to Scale at $399 a month ($299 billed yearly), plus 0.9% on the GMV above $33,333: 0.9% × $6,667 = about $60 a month. When BigCommerce is the better choice

• You want several storefronts from one account. BigCommerce lists extra storefronts on each self-service plan: up to 3 on Core at $30/month each, up to 5 on Growth, up to 8 on Scale.
• You need a specific payment provider. The list of embedded providers is long, and paying through them carries no extra BigCommerce fee.
• You sell in many currencies. The pricing page lists payments in more than 100 currencies on all plans.
• You are a large business that wants a contract. Performance offers custom terms, and the Open Payment Provider fee doesn't apply under contract.
