Omniterra vs Wix: which one fits an online store?

Short answer

Wix is a website builder first. It has a drag-and-drop editor, an AI site builder, more than 2,000 templates and business tools for stores, bookings, events and restaurants. If your site is mostly about content, services or a brand, with some products on the side, it is a strong choice.

Omniterra is an e-commerce platform. It has a free plan with no time limit, 0% commission on every plan, and card payments through your own Stripe account. It also covers cash on delivery with fees, limits and regions, B2B, subscriptions and a storefront in 19 languages. If selling is the main job of the site, especially across several countries or with cash on delivery, that focus matters.

At a glance

On the Wix plans page, "Accept payments" and eCommerce appear on Core, Business and Business Elite, not on Light or Free. The page says displayed prices are for yearly subscriptions paid in full, that other subscription periods are available and that tax is extra. Wix's help page on Premium pricing adds that there is no free trial for Premium plans, only a 14-day money-back guarantee, and that you need a Premium plan to connect a custom domain.

The plans page doesn't publish a monthly-billing price next to these, so we haven't listed one.

Payment fees

The plans page lists no platform commission on sales. What you pay per order is the payment processing fee. For Wix Payments, the service fees page lists, for standard credit and debit cards (excluding American Express):

• EU countries: 1.9% + €0.30. Cross-border payments add 1%, except between two EU countries; payments in a currency other than your site's main currency add a 2% conversion fee.
• United States: 2.9% + $0.30, with a 1.5% cross-border fee and 1% currency conversion.
• United Kingdom: 2.1% + £0.20.

Wix Payments is available in a set list of countries. Where it isn't, the About Wix Payments page says you can accept payments with a third-party provider.

Worked example: €10,000 a month in card sales

Assumptions: a business based in Ireland, as an example of an EU country. It has 200 card orders a month at €50 each, all on standard EEA consumer cards in euros, so there are no cross-border or conversion fees. Plan prices are shown as each company publishes them.

Stripe's Irish pricing page lists 1.5% + €0.25 for standard EEA cards. At this volume, the fee gap is about €50 a month, or €600 a year. The fee gap grows with your card sales. Stripe's rates vary by country and card type, and so do Wix's, so run the numbers for where your business is registered.

Cash on delivery and selling abroad

Wix lets you add a manual payment with the title "Cash on delivery" and your own instructions. According to its help page, orders paid that way must be marked as paid manually.

On Omniterra, cash on delivery is a full payment method. You can add a COD fee, set order limits and choose the regions where it is offered. Orders the customer doesn't accept get a "Refused on delivery" status, and COD Guard scores each order for risk before you ship. If many of your customers pay on delivery, as is common in the Gulf and parts of Europe, these controls help you keep refused parcels under control.

• The website comes first. For a portfolio, a service business or a content-heavy brand site, the Wix editor, AI builder and templates are hard to beat.
• You take bookings, sell tickets or run a restaurant. Wix has built-in tools for scheduling, events and restaurant orders alongside the store.
• You want everything in one familiar place. Many teams already know Wix, and it offers 24/7 customer care on its plans.
• Your card sales are small. At low volume, the processing fee gap is only a few euros, and the rest of Wix's toolset may matter more.
