Omniterra vs Ecwid: which one fits your store as it grows?

Short answer

Ecwid's big strength is flexibility: you can drop a store into an existing WordPress, Wix or Squarespace site, sell on several sites from one account, or use its Instant Site builder. It charges no transaction fees on any plan and works with more than 70 payment providers. Plans are priced mostly by how many products you sell: 10, 100, 2,500 or unlimited.

Omniterra also takes 0% commission on every plan and adds a free plan with no time limit. Card payments go through your own Stripe account, and cash on delivery, B2B, subscriptions and a storefront in 19 languages are part of the platform. All of this comes from Ecwid's pricing page, which lists "$0" in fees charged per sale by Ecwid on every plan. It also says plans are month-to-month with no long-term commitment, and that bandwidth and storage are unlimited. One-tap Apple Pay and Google Pay, and recurring subscriptions, need Lightspeed Payments or Stripe.

Payments and cash on delivery

Ecwid says it works with over 70 payment providers worldwide, including PayPal and Stripe. For offline payments, its help page on manual payments describes adding a method such as "Cash on delivery" with instructions for the customer. You can limit it to certain shipping methods, for example local delivery or pickup. Those orders stay "Awaiting Payment" until you mark them as paid.

On Omniterra, card payments go through your own Stripe account, connected in one click, with card fields in the checkout plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. PayPal, Revolut, local processors such as NETOPIA, EuPlatesc and PayU, and bank transfer are there too. See payments.

Cash on delivery on Omniterra goes further than a manual method. You can add a COD fee, set order limits and choose the regions where it is offered. Orders the customer doesn't accept get a "Refused on delivery" status, and COD Guard gives each order a risk score before you ship.

Worked example: 300 products, €10,000 a month in card sales

Assumptions: a business in Ireland, as an example of an EU country. It has 300 products and 200 card orders a month at €50 each, on standard EEA cards in euros. It uses Stripe on both platforms, so card fees are the same either way. Plan prices are shown as each company publishes them.

Stripe's Irish pricing page lists 1.5% + €0.25 for standard EEA cards: €150 plus 200 × €0.25, so €200 a month on both platforms. Because neither platform takes a cut, the real difference is the plan price at your catalogue size, and which features come with it.
